Keep Your Human Contacts Smooth and Pleasant is a collaboration between Mimi Cabell and Lindsay Foster. To date, we have completed two projects, Keep Shining and One Makes an Instrument of Themselves and is Estranged Also.
One Makes an Instrument of Themselves and is Estranged Also, 2016
One Makes an Instrument of Themselves and is Estranged Also consists of one short film Handlers, a video Ode to JL Seagull, an installation, and a performance with a mini pony. This body of work investigates how the groupthink of contemporary corporate and freelance culture requires teamwork, and continual self, friend, and colleague management. Our concerns with this work are the commercialized self, the marketized private life, the one that is unknowingly produced by the corporate cum personal concerns that surround it, and to which it is unaware (how can it be?). Installation shots from GRIN Gallery in Providence, RI, January 2016.
Keep Shining, 2014
Keep Shining consists of one 90 minute film Supporters, one 3 minute video Guidelines, one web-based project Help Me Be Me, and one performance Keep Shining. Working with what Erving Goffman calls “performance of self in everyday life” we explore how hope and sincerity operate through lived performance.
